Climate & Weather of Semuliki National Park Uganda

Semuliki National Park has a tropical climate. It lies next to the Democratic Republic of Congo and is surrounded by the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the Mountains of the Moon. Its lowland location in the equatorial region supports rich ecosystems including rainforests, wetlands, and Savannah areas.

Weather in the park is divided into dry and wet seasons, and each has its advantages. The dry season offers clear visibility and easier movement, while the wet season often comes with lower prices for accommodation and park activities. Rain is common, with long hours of rainfall or even an entire day of rain during the wet season, while the dry season may have only short showers or no rain at all.

Temperatures remain fairly stable throughout the year because of the equatorial climate. Daytime temperatures range from 25°C to 30°C, while nights are cooler, dropping to around 18°C. The park is generally warm, especially in the dry months.

Visitors are advised to carry light clothes, a safari hat to shield from the strong sun, insect repellent, and sunscreen. A small first aid kit is also useful in case of illness or injury. Before traveling, it is wise to consult a doctor to make sure you are fit for safari.

The long rains fall from March to May, and the short rains come between October and November. Annual rainfall ranges from 1200mm to 1600mm, helping to maintain the forests, wetlands, and vegetation that support many animal and plant species. Humidity is also high, averaging about 85%, because of the heavy rainfall and dense vegetation.

Semuliki National Park stays green throughout the year, making it a unique place to visit in western Uganda.
