List of Semuliki National Park Gates – Access & Safari Guide

Searching for a list of List of Semuliki National Park gates? Semuliki National Park is less known compared to many other parks in Uganda, but it is worth visiting. It is found in Bundibugyo, western Uganda, and covers about 220 square kilometers.

The park protects both savanna and forest vegetation, with its forest connecting to the Ituri Forest in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was first gazetted as a forest reserve in 1932 and later became a national park in 1993, making it the newest park in Uganda.

Tourists can access Semuliki by road or air depending on their budget. Road transport is more common because it is cheaper, flexible, and allows stopovers at markets or other tourist spots. Air transport is faster but more expensive, and after landing you still need a safari car to reach the park gates.

The main gates include:

  • Kiruma Gate: Located in the northern part of the park. It is the starting point for many activities such as game drives, bird watching, and nature walks.
  • Sempaya Gate: Found in the eastern part of the park, it is famous for the hot springs. Visitors can learn about geothermal activity, and the local Bakonzo people consider the springs sacred. Some locals may be seen bathing or performing rituals here.
  • Ntandi Gate: Known for hippos and crocodiles. It is a good place for boat cruises, which are organized in shifts to ensure safety. Guided walks through the forest also start here.
  • Semiliki Gate: The newest gate, located in the central part of the park. It is a good area for birding, camping, and nature walks to see plants and animals up close.
  • Bumaga Gate: Found in the western part of the park. It provides access to grasslands, savanna, and wildlife. It is best visited in the dry season for easier travel.

After exploring the park, visitors can rest at nearby lodges and hotels such as Semuliki Safari Lodge, Ntoroko Game Lodge, Kirimia Guest House, Hotel Vanilla, Nyati Game Lodge, and Semuliki River Camp.
