Tipping Guide for Semuliki National Park Uganda

Tipping Guide for Semuliki National Park Uganda

Tipping is a way to show gratitude to the people who make your safari in Semuliki National Park enjoyable. Keep in mind that tipping is not part of your main safari budget, so it is good to plan for it separately and give tips wisely where it feels necessary.

Before traveling to Semuliki, exchange some of your money into the local currency, the Uganda shilling. Some workers may not have access to money exchange services. Guides can also be tipped in US dollars, but it is better to carry small notes for convenience. Even though most staff are paid monthly or daily, the extra money you give makes a big difference in their lives.

Tipping is not mandatory or a cultural requirement in Uganda. It is done freely and out of appreciation. If someone demands a tip, report it to park officials or the lodge manager. However, tipping for good service is always welcomed and encourages staff. You may tip your driver guide, park rangers, lodge staff, or even local people selling crafts or food.

Porters are often hired by trekkers at around 20 USD per porter per day. At the end of your safari, you can tip them as a group, usually between 5 USD and 20 USD per guest, which they share among themselves.

Safari drivers or guides are usually tipped 5 to 10 USD per guest at the end of the trip, often just before drop-off at the airport or hotel. National park guides may be tipped 3 to 5 USD per guest, preferably in the local currency. Lodge or camp staff can be tipped around 3 to 5 USD per stay. Many smaller lodges have a central tip box where the money is shared equally among staff.
