How to Get to Semuliki National Park – Road & Air Travel Guide

The journey to Semuliki National Park offers travelers different options. You can either fly or take road transport. Road travel is cheaper and more flexible, while air travel is faster but more expensive and best suited for midrange and luxury budgets.

Flights operate on set schedules, so keeping time is important. If you miss a flight, you may need to pay again. Flights can also be delayed or canceled due to weather, so it is better to plan your trip during the dry season. Always ask your tour guide to confirm flight availability before you leave home.

Flights depart from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip and usually land at Kasese airfield. They run from morning to late afternoon.

Road transport, on the other hand, has fewer restrictions. If you are self-driving, make sure you have a valid driving license, carry only legal items, follow traffic rules, avoid speeding, and do not drink and drive. Many visitors prefer using tour companies, which provide professional drivers familiar with the routes.

The road journey to Semuliki usually starts from Entebbe International Airport. Depending on your arrival time, you may first rest before setting off. Some travelers also stop in Kampala, the capital city, to buy any safari essentials before continuing.

From Kampala, you can take the Kampala–Fort Portal road through Masaka, Mbarara, and Kasese. This route is about 465 km and takes around 7–8 hours. It also connects to other parks such as Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Mburo National Park.

Another option is the Kampala–Fort Portal road via Mubende. This is shorter, about 180 km, and takes 4–5 hours. However, the road is narrow, so it requires an experienced driver.

Semuliki National Park is located in Bundibugyo District, about 59 km from Fort Portal. Once you arrive, you can enjoy activities such as birding, nature walks, cultural encounters, and much more.
